Ken Gardiner Introduced Tom Rodman for his classification talk

As a result of changes experiences in his life as well as a result of being a minister’s son, Tom always felt a sense a purpose in his life.  It instilled in him the importance of making a difference in the lives of others.

 

His father was a great, but life as a minister’s son was difficult. His life at home was diferent than their family life in public.  His father was emotionally unstable.  He sought professional help – his behavior was erratic.  After explosions of emotion he would come back to Tom remorseful.

 

When he was 14 yo Tom’s father he attempted suicide for the first time.  He ended his life at 51 when Tom was 19. 

 

After a decade of acting out, living his life as an oppressed victim, after his dads death Tom recognized behaviors in himself that were similar to his father’s erratic behaviors.  He realized that he could make proper life choices and take dominion over my life.  Felt driven to share my experience with others.

 

He started the Strive program 30 years ago.

He wasn’t going to be the person to run it, but he collaborated with experts.

Tom was married 3 times to the same person.  Mariella is a well-known makeup artist.  She won an emmy for working for Rosie O’Donnell for 6 years.

Son Cody – went to the Citadel – 1.5 years in deployment

Goddaughter – Vicki

 

Encouraged kids to lead by their hearts

Son – army medic and took his talents to the Masai in Africa

Made an honorary Masai warrior

 

Daughter – moved to Nepal and taught art in a Tibetan orphanage

 

Military tradition in his family

 

Recruited by Merrill Lynch – 1975

Worked with Lehman Brothers left there in 1985

 

Client Robert Maxwell – He went on an acquisition binge in London – he ran into trouble for practices.  That ended and Tom went to the Middle East to do business.  He planned to open an office in Beirut Lebanon.  That didn’t last due to political issues.

A:  We trained the trainers through strive academy.  Start the first class any day now.

 

Strive is workforce development program that defined attitude development.  Started in a basement in Harlem and the program has been replicated around the country 20 cities around the US - Just opened in New Orleans & soon in Detroit.  65,000 job placements.
