Buckets on the Table are ending after today’s meeting for the Camden Area Food Pantry, and after today through mid-January will be for the Shields Mission.

Our speaker was Patrisha McLean of Finding Our Voices, an organization working to break the silence associated with domestic/spousal abuse. Patrisha has been speaking out after 29 years, most notably and locally with an exhibit that was in the Camden Library. She has recently added the ability to listen to each women’s story via cellphone, while viewing a displayed photo/poster. There are 2x4 banners in over 70 storefronts around Camden and Rockland, with other posters displayed around the Midcoast and other parts of Maine. The recently-held Rockland Art Walk had over 50 artists and 50 businesses participate, displaying works of art and posters associated with partner/spousal abuse. There are also recent Pet Posters created, as pet abuse is another indicator of domestic abuse, especially in the early stages.  A new poster of Patrisha’s daughter, Jackie, was created after Jackie broke her silence after 30 years.  Patrisha also identified that there has been a rising number of cases of domestic abuse as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.

Patrisha’s work and organization are highlighted in a recent article in the Irish Times, where they discuss Coercive Control, which is non-violent, emotional abuse. The article can be found at:
