Service Above Self Moment: Left over Wedding Flowers to hospital patients. Simple Sunflower organization from VCU Medical Center.

Speaker of the Day: District Governor Doug Curtis

Doug has been an active Rotarian in Rockland Club. ‘Hello West Bay Rotary! Great to see everyone in person! Tough year, a lot of loss but needs still do exist.’Augru Think of ourselves as Rotarians as a whole, clubs working with clubs. Rotarians make a difference. Covid Response worked with Fire & Ambulance Agencies to provide equipment for vaccination efforts. Each One Bring One, Retain One. DEI, combined activities, passport clubs. ‘Service is the rent we pay for out space on this earth’. Environment – river/lake/ocean cleanup. Doug is looking to creating a District Foundation which requires $25K to start this program in order to bring more money to the district. Supporting the Environment, which is a new Rotary area of Focus. The project has to be sustainable, no one time projects. So, we are looking at invasive species project. RI is not able to match funds at this time due to covid. (80% match instead). There will be 10 clubs to join us next year! Doug asked that we consider becoming a sister club to one of the new clubs. District Conference: May 13-15, 2022 – boarder issues remain a challenge.

Meal of Hope: packing meals again! Aug 28^th. Need a few more folks to sign up! Clark Dorrin, Camden

 

Club: Meals on Wheels. Needing volunteers to help people remain in their homes. There are 15 volunteers from the Camden club and around 50 total. Covid changed how we deliver meals, reduced number of days and volunteers. Deliveries are increasing again to 4 days a week. We would like to do this together with West Bay Rotary! If you are interested, contact Sandy!
